Refunds & Returns

Last updated: August 2026 ยท Please have this page reviewed by an adviser qualified in South African law before launch.

Your 7-day right to cancel

As a consumer buying online in South Africa, you have the right to cancel your order within seven days of receiving the goods, without giving a reason, under section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002. This is a shorter period than the fourteen days that applies in the European Union, and seven days is the South African statutory minimum. To cancel, send us a clear statement by email at theteam@magneticscreens.co.za with your order number before that period ends.

Any clear statement will do. There is no prescribed form.

What you get back

We refund the price you paid, using the same payment method you used. Section 44(3) of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act requires that refund within 30 days of the date of cancellation, and in practice we process it as soon as the goods reach us.

You pay the direct cost of returning the goods, which is what section 44(2) of that Act provides. Unrolling a screen and offering it up to the window is fine. Cutting it to size is not, because it cannot then be resold.

Screens made to your measurements

If we make a screen to the measurements you give us, for example through our quote service, it is made to your own specification. Section 42(2) of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act excludes goods made to a consumer's own specifications from the section 44 cooling-off right, so that right does not apply once we have started making it. We say this on the quote form too, so you know before you order. This is a different thing from a standard size that you cut down yourself at home: standard sizes keep the full cancellation right until you cut them.

If anything is wrong with a made-to-measure item, just contact us. Faulty or incorrect goods are always put right, and the exemption above does not touch your statutory rights over defects.

If something is faulty

If your order arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, contact us and we will put it right at no cost to you. We cover return costs for faulty items. Your statutory rights apply under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. Section 55 gives you the right to goods that are safe, of good quality, in working order and free of defects, and section 56 gives you an implied warranty of quality: if goods fail within six months of delivery you may return them and choose whether we repair them, replace them or refund you, at our cost.

How to start a return

Email theteam@magneticscreens.co.za with your order number and tell us whether you are cancelling or reporting a fault. We reply with the return address and the next step. Please do not send anything back before you hear from us, so your parcel does not go astray.

Consumer dispute resolution

If a dispute arises we would much rather settle it with you directly, so please contact us first. If we cannot resolve it, the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud handles consumer complaints in this sector at cgso.org.za, and the National Consumer Commission, established under section 85 of the Consumer Protection Act, publishes guidance for consumers at thencc.org.za.
